Acupuncture and Lyme

Today I'm looking for information on Acupuncture and how it can be used to treat Lyme and other tick born illnesses.

I don't think that I will ever try acupuncture - I have a pathological fear of being punctured. But, I am at the point where I want to change the direction of my treatment. Two days off antibiotics and I feel fantastic. Last time I went off the drugs, I thought I would crash, but I didn't. I'm not well enough to work yet, but when I'm not taking the drugs, I can do all sorts of things I couldn't when taking them. It's time to investigate new directions for my healing and acupuncture is on the list of things to learn about.

What do I know about acupuncture? It's pointy. I know that is has been in use for hundreds thousands?) of years. Lots of people think it is wonderful and they use it in China to do things we would think impossible here in the West.

I have even been informed that acupuncture can cure my phobia of needles. hmmm.... all things are possible, I suppose.

I don't know if there are any risks involved. Well, I did see that episode of Family Guy, but that's cartoon medicine and probably not an accurate representation of the real world.

I like the Chinese way of restoring balance to the body. At different times in my life I have done the Traditional Chinese medicine thing where you boil up these foul smelling herbs for hours then drink the tea. It's actually not that bad after the first few times and it did revitalize me for several months. I especially liked the one herbalist, an old fellow in China Town who I called John Wayne. The thing is, now that I live with my G'pa, there is no way he would allow me to cook up a batch of Chinese herbs.

I also wonder; we have only recently become aware of Lyme, can traditional medicine help with such a new illness or would it just be treating the symptoms?

You always come up with very good questions. I probably wouldn't have thought about questioning traditional medicine's ability to treat such a new illness; that's a very good point and totally valid concern.
I've recently got curious about reiki because of a series of coincidences that happened in my life lately involving it. A friend of mine is a reiki practicioner, so I will have the opportunity to give it a try soon; I'm curious to see how it goes. I wonder if reiki could be useful in any way in your case? I'll ask my friend what she thinks.

I tried acupuncture as well. I was lucky enough to find a skilled practitioner willing to deal with my fear of needles (though I had enough blood tests with the lyme to practice getting over that!). Her medicine was surprisingly strong (to someone who is willing to try alternatives but sometimes struggles to deeply believe in them). My body cleansed itself the first week (literally, diarrhea 4 times a day). A few months later during a session I felt incredible amounts of heat leaving from the spot I suspect was my tick bite, given the few memories I have of that. Anyway, find the right person and they can have a powerful impact. Not a cure, for me, but at least a piece of the puzzle.

You can get many of the benefits of acupuncture through acupressure, which just involves (strangely enough) putting pressure on the meridean points instead of needles.

If you are looking for alternative treatment options, you might be interested in some information I received recently from an Acupuncture friend of mine regarding chronic parasitic illness. It's honestly some of the most fascinating stuff I've ever read.

I am currently on high-dose antibiotics, but once I have completed my course will switch to an herbal protocol (possibly this one). Acupuncture has also greatly benefited me.

The articles highlighted in the post are long reads, but worth it. Much love and luck to you as you continue to heal.
